Mervin David Chupp, 91, passed away Friday, April 10, 2026, at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen.
He was born Oct. 21, 1934, in Goshen, Indiana to Enos J. and Elizabeth Ann “Lizzie” (Hostetler) Chupp.
On January 27, 1957, he married Edna Ruth Eigsti who preceded him in death in January 2022. Mervin is survived by a son, Brent (Lauri) Chupp, Goshen; four grandchildren, 3 brothers, Wilbur (Elsie) Chupp, Elvie (Joan) Chupp and Ivan (Eunice) Chupp, all of Goshen, Indiana.
Along with his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lynette Hunt; one brother, Marlin; four sisters, Phyllis (Freeman) Miller, Mary (Mervin) Christner, Elsie (Lawrence) Stutzman, and Dorothy Hershberger.
Mr. Chupp worked as a press operator for Behlen Manufacturing (formerly Star Tank and Boat, and later Universal Co-op) retiring after 46 years of employment. Along with his wife, he was part owner/operator of Goshen Motor Inn for several years.
Mervin’s faith in Jesus Christ was a cornerstone of his life. He placed high importance on family and worked hard to provide for them, often putting their needs above his own. He preferred self-sufficiency rather than asking for assistance and was an extremely creative problem-solver.
Mervin loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed traveling, walking, riding his motorcycle, and simply sitting outside soaking up the sun. He made friends easily and was often recognized by his white hair and genuine smile. He particularly enjoyed music and singing, participating for more than 20 years in the Gospel Messengers, a local men’s chorus.
Mr. Chupp was a member of Waterford Mennonite Church and a past member of the Goshen Sunrisers Kiwanis Club.
In retirement, Mervin volunteered with the Mennonite Relief Sale in Goshen and Seeds of Hope in Casa Grande, Arizona. His favorite hobby was creating wooden cutouts featuring short phrases.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, and on Saturday, April 18 at Waterford Mennonite Church in Goshen, 10 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service. Pastor Deron Bergstresser will officiate.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Faith Mission, Elkhart.
