Merry Gertrude Ferguson, 90, of Goshen passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Greencroft Gables Healthcare.
She was born September 21, 1935, in Dunlap (Elkhart County) to Edgar A. and Helen (Kime) Rapp, and was a lifetime resident of the area.
On May 16, 1954, Merry married Carl E. Ferguson at Dunlap United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2014.
Merry is survived by her four children: Karen (Steve) O’Dell, Bristol, Julie (Mark) Blake, Goshen, Sherrie (Kevin) Kropf, Goshen and Gary (Pam) Rapp, Elkhart; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren and a brother, William (Doris) Rapp, Huntington.
Along with her parents and husband Carl, she was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Loucks, and brothers Jack and Joe Rapp.
Merry worked in factory occupations for many years, dedicating 13 years to Foam Ex and 13 years to Triangle Rubber.
A woman of deep faith, Merry was a very strong and involved member of Dunlap United Methodist Church. When she was unable to attend in person, she faithfully watched services online.
Merry was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing cards with family and friends at Greencroft, and loved camping with her family. She was a huge fan of Notre Dame basketball and baseball, as well as a big Caitlin Clark fan. She played softball in her younger years and was a proud lefty. She was recruited for the first women’s professional softball team in Indiana, but her grandparents, who were raising her did not approve.
Above all, she treasured her family; she lovingly cross-stitched 21 quilt tops, one for every single one of her great-grandchildren—and faithfully attended school activities and sports events for her grandkids.
Visitation will be Friday, August 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen and from 10 to 11. a.m., Saturday, August 15 at Dunlap United Methodist Church prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service.
