Merritt J. Kyle, 83, of Ligonier died Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Goshen Hospital after an extended battle with cancer.
He was born April 30, 1939 in Pierceton to Paul and Mary (Baker) Kyle.
On November 25, 1962 he married Mamie Schmidt.
She survives along with their children, Beverly (Robert) Mace of Ligonier, Rhonda (Kevin) Sharp of Kendallville, and Donna (Roy) Blankenbeckler of Syracuse; seven grandchildren, Bobbie McKee, John Mace, Jay Woods, Dustin Woods, Kyle Roberts, Rebecca Wooten and Dunkun Blankenbeckler; and seven great-grandchildren, Kalli, Chloe and Ella McKee, Miranda Roumell, Glenn Woods, and Samantha and Sydney Roberts.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by all 10 of his siblings.
Mr. Kyle served in the National Guard for more than 25 years. He worked for many years for the State Highway as a foreman, and most recently at Tenneco Inc. in Ligonier.
Merritt was a member of the American Legion and life member of the D.A.V. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and western movies and books, especially those written by Louis L'Amour. Time spent with family and life-long friends, Dave and Nancy Truex, were especially important to him.
Visitation will be Monday, October 24, 2022 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where a 10 a.m. funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, October 25, 2022. Nephew, David Kyle will officiate.
Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen.
