Merle E. Lorenz

Merle E. Lorenz, 90, of Goshen died Saturday, October 14, 2023 at East Lake Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Elkhart.

He was born in Miami County May 22, 1933 to Raymond and Beulah (Sproal) Lorenz.

On May 29, 1952 he married Phyllis J. Swinehart in Goshen. She died September 9, 2016.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Steve) Vlaeminck of Marcellus, Michigan and Wanda (Jim) Clay of Union, Michigan; a son, Dennis (Joanne) Lorenz of Goshen; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth (Marilyn) Lorenz of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Gary (Jody) Lorenz of Union, Michigan; and a sister, Mary Combs of Bristol.

Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Lorenz, Phyllis Lorenz, and Martha Lewallen; and a brother, John Lorenz.

Mr. Lorenz attended Sugar Grove Church and worked as a truck driver for 42 years. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing and pheasant hunting. He also enjoyed wood carving and spending time in Texas during the winter months while Phyllis was alive.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 3 to 7 p.m. and Friday, October 20, from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service, all at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.

Following services cremation will take place with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery at a later date.
