Merle Elizabeth Ferris

Merle Elizabeth Ferris, 87, of Goshen, died early Saturday morning, December 8, 2007 at Courtyard Healthcare of Goshen. She was born in Lorena, Texas, on September 13, 1920, to Robert and Nettie (Nix) Harper.  She married Roy Ferris, Sr., on September 24, 1944 in Bruceville-Eddy, Texas.  He preceded her on February 9, 2002. A five year resident of the area, Mrs. Ferris worked as a surgical nurse.  She was a member of the Parkway Baptist Church in Bardstown, Kentucky. She is survived by a son, Roy (Linda) Ferris, Jr. of Middlelbury; a daughter, Joy (Gary) Beall of San Marcus, Texas; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Benita Colby of Conroe, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy and two brothers, Cecil and Robert Lee Harper. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, at the funeral home. A 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 13, 2007, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Rev. Ray Laborde of the McCoy Memorial Baptist Church, Elkhart will officiate. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Arlington Heights, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern Indiana.
