Melvin L. Kauffmann, 91, died early Saturday morning, December 12, 2009, at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen. He has lived in Goshen since 2003. He was born to the late Aaron and Magdelina (Birky) Kauffmann, on June 10, 1918, in Palmer, Iowa. On December 9, 1943, he married Marietta Barth, in Peoria, Illinois, she survives. A painter and a welder, Mr. Kauffmann was a member of the College Mennonite Church, Goshen, and the Hopedale Mennonite Church, Iowa. He also filled roles as an elder, superintendent, and teacher at these two churches. He is survived by four sons, Duane R. (Dortha) Kauffmann, Galen K. (Cynthia) Kauffmann, both of Goshen, Donald L. (Wanda) Kauffmann, Pine Mountain, Georgia, Keith D. (Kathleen) Kauffmann, Oregon, Illinois; one sister, Dorothy (Wayne) Miller, Walnut Creek, Ohio; one brother Maurice Dale (Rose) Kauffmann, Chubbock, Idaho; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Curtis D. Kauffmann; one brother, Russell Kauffmann; and three sisters, Pearl Kauffmann, Erma Hanks, and Gladys Kauffmann. Friends may call from 12-2 p.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at the Meetinghouse, Goshen. A 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 15, funeral service will be held at the Meetinghouse. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery. Memorials may be given, in place of flowers, to the College Mennonite Jubilee Fund.
