Melvin J. Eash, 84, of Goshen, died Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Goshen Hospital.
He was born February 19, 1939 in Fairview, Michigan to Leon and Edna (Steiner) Eash.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Burger Eash; children, Denise (Bill) Beckford, Patrice (Matthew) Traxler, Melissa “Missy” (Todd) Miller, and Gregg (Teri) Eash, all of Goshen; step-children, Kimberly Ann Goudey, Goshen, James Burger and Susan (Michael) Feller, both of Noblesville; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Austin Bradley Roose; and three brothers, Norval Eash, W. LeRoy “Wink” Eash, and Mervin Eash.
A 1957 Jefferson High School graduate, Mr. Eash served as an Indiana State Trooper before retiring in July 1993. After retirement he worked for Bontrager Pools.
Mel and Mary Ann enjoyed 27 years wintering in Sarasota, Florida, where he enjoyed playing bocce ball. Locally he was a former member of Maplecrest Country Club, participating in the Monday evening golf league, and the Middlebury Men’s Club. He was also a long-time member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
There will also be an hour of visitation Wednesday, July 12, beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service at the funeral home. Pastor Diana Siegel, Goshen First Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Indiana Fallen Heroes Foundation, Inc. or the Elkhart County 4H Fair Foundation.
