Melvin G. Huber, 87, of Goshen, died Tuesday morning, September 7, 2010, at Goshen General Hospital. He was born in Goshen on March 9, 1923, to the late G. Fred and Sarah (Shidler) Huber. He married Joann A. Detwiler on November 21, 1942, at the First Brethren Church Parsonage in Goshen. She survives. Also surviving are four children: Rick (Jan) Huber and Steve (Sandy) Huber, both of Goshen, Sandy (Michael) Vance of New Paris, and Barb (Bob) Hoke of Columbia City; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley (Mary) Huber of Goshen; and three sisters-in-law, Jean Huber of Kendallville, Erdene Mishler and Myrtle Huber, both of Goshen. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Calvin, Orris, and Arthur Huber; and two sisters, Evelyn Webb and Lorraine Phebus. A lifetime Goshen resident, Mr. Huber attended Goshen High School. He served in the US Army from April 17, 1943 to February 10, 1946, as an airplane mechanic and earned the rank of corporal. For 30 years he drove truck for Star Tank and Boat which became Universal, retiring in 1986. He also worked for City Dairy where he drove a horse and buggy milk truck. In the 1950’s he worked for Culp Funeral Home in Goshen. He was a member of Jefferson Brethren Church, Goshen. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 9, and 9 to 10 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home. A 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 10, 2010, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Spyker of Jefferson Brethren Church officiating. His body will be cremated at Yoder-Culp Crematory, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Ministry or Jefferson Brethren Church.
