Melvin J. Gingerich, 71, of Goshen died late Wednesday night, June 25, 2008, at Greencroft Healthcare after an extended illness. He was born in Bremen, Indiana, on July 30, 1936, to Joni J. and Sovilla (Miller) Gingerich. He married Areena M. Stringfellow, on April 6, 1957, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She survives. A lifetime resident of the area, Mr. Gingerich worked in the RV Industry. He is survived by his wife, Areena; two daughters, Roxanne Burgess of Syracuse, and Vicki (Greg) Bernheisel of Goshen; two sons, Doyle Gingerich and Alan Gingerich, both of Syracuse; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five sisters, Edna (Willis) Miller of Milroy, Fannie (Perry) Hochstetler of Ligonier, Esther (John) Weaver of Sarasota, Florida, Irene (Freeman) Kuhns of Milford, and Mary (Lloyd) Yoder of Drakesville, Iowa; and four brothers, Clarence (Mary Ellen) Gingerich of Nappanee, Gary Gingerich of Goshen, Ervin (Rosie) Gingerich of Bloomfield, Iowa, and Larry (Marlene) Gingerich of New Paris. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori J. Gingerich. Friends may call 1 to 3 p.m., Monday, June 30, 2008, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 3:00 p.m. memorial service will be conducted. Pastor Mike Overpeck of the Community Church of Waterford will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Community Church of Waterford.
