Melvin A. Yoder, 85, of Goshen, died early Tuesday morning, July 24, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare where he had been since March. He was born July 27, 1926 in LaGrange County to Andrew J. and Mattie (Miller) Yoder. He married Mattie M. Miller January 17, 1948 in Goshen. She preceded him in death April 29, 2002. He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn D. Marchand of Elkhart; two sons, M. Douglas (Vicki) Yoder of Goshen, and Marlon (Bonnie) Yoder of Granger; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister, Fannie Mae Hartz of Morgantown, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Johnathan Yoder and Andrew Yoder; two sisters, Elmina Yoder and Katie Kauffman; and three brothers, Freeman, Truman and twin, Elvin Yoder. A lifetime resident of the area, Mr. Yoder retired from construction work. He had worked for Randy Yoder Construction and Portage Realty, South Bend. For 13 years he owned and operated Mel's Citgo station in Goshen. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m., Friday, July 27, 2012, funeral service will be conducted. Pastor Mike Overpeck will officiate. Burial will follow in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to American Parkinson's Disease Association - Midwest Chapter, Wheaton, Illinois.
