Maynard C. Cripe

Maynard C. Cripe, 90, of Goshen, died Saturday morning, March 22, 2008, at Goshen General Hospital. He was born in Goshen on June 4, 1917, to Charles and Cora Alice (Hoover) Cripe. He married Audrey J. Forney on May 11, 1941 in Goshen. She preceded him in death on November 26, 2002. Mr. Cripe was owner and operator of M.C. Cripe realty Company for 42 years. He helped organize and was a charter member of the first Goshen Board of Realtors and served as the first president of the board and received honorary life membership. He retired in 1980. A 1935 New Paris High School graduate, he attended South Bend Business College for two years. He was a member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren; Goshen Lions Club where he served as president; Goshen Chamber of Commerce; and he helped organize the greater Goshen Industrial Park. Golf was his hobby and Mr. Cripe was a member of Maplecrest Country Club, a club he helped organize and develop. He also served the club president the first two years of the club’s existence. He was proud of his low round of 66 in 1971 that tied the course record. In 2003 he shot his age, 86, the second year in a row he was able to shoot or beat his age. He is survived by a granddaughter, Kimberly Cripe of Goshen; a grandson, Daniel A. Cripe of Sellersburg; and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey; three sons, Stephen A. Cripe in 2001 and two infant sons James Michael and Jeffrey Dean Cripe; two sisters, Edna Ogle and Mary Yoder; and five brothers, Fred, Walter, Virgil, Charles and Vern Cripe. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 25 at the funeral home. A 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. George Cripe, a nephew, and Pastor Yvonne Riege of Goshen City Church of the Brethren will officiate. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen City Church of the Brethren.
