Maxine Kauffman, 87, of Goshen, peacefully passed away to her heavenly home Thursday morning, October 11, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare. She was born in Goshen, March 9, 1925, to Alvin and Alma (Showalter) Kauffman. She is survived by a brother, Dana (Carol) Kauffman of Millersburg; a sister, Gladys (James) Hershberger of Goshen; and nine nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jennie (Ralph) Pletcher, and Loa Miller. She attended Clinton Community School, Millersburg High School, Goshen College, and three summers at Ball State University. Her teaching included 36 years at Millersburg Elementary, a year with Navajos in New Mexico and Arizona, and three summers at Laurelville Mennonite Camp. The enjoyment of volunteer service led her to Meals on Wheels, Oaklawn Auxiliary, IN-MI Mennonite Conference, Mennonite Mission Network, and Greencroft Caring Friends. Nature, quilting, music, and mission outreach were among her interests. Maxine was a life-long member of Clinton Brick Mennonite Church. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 15, 2012, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Burial at Clinton Brick Cemetery will be at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2012, followed by a 10:30 a.m. memorial service at Clinton Brick Mennonite Church. Rev. Dave Hathaway will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Mission Network, Greencroft Foundation, or Clinton Brick Mennonite Church.
