Maxine Anita Harvey, age 85, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, in Elkhart, Indiana. She was surrounded by her loving daughters, Tina Hicks and Kathleen Mast.
Born on February 11, 1940, in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, Maxine’s life was shaped by curiosity, compassion, and an unwavering belief in lifelong learning. She earned her doctorate in Educational Psychology from Barry University in Florida, and throughout her life, she remained forever eager to grow, question, and understand the world around her.
Her journey took her from Pennsylvania to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, then to South Bend, Indiana; Lake Havasu, Arizona; Middlebury, Indiana; and finally, Elkhart. Along the way, she built deep connections, made people laugh, and inspired others with her generosity and warmth. She was a member of the Middlebury Church of the Brethren and found strength in her faith and community.
Maxine was never without a book in hand. She loved dogs, had a passion for resale shopping, and a gift for finding joy in everyday things. Her kindness was quiet but powerful, and she had a special way of making people feel seen and valued.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly and spoke of with pride and affection.
Maxine will be remembered not only for her accomplishments but for her humor, her heart, and the light she brought into others’ lives.
Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
