Maxine E. Cripe

Maxine E. Cripe, 89, of Goshen, died late Saturday night, April 21, 2007, at Greencroft Healthcare.  She had been ill the past ten years.   She was born on November 17, 1917, in Goshen, to Earl and Mabel (Horner) Bickel.  She married Frederick Cripe Jr., on September 2, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky.  He died October 24, 1990.   A lifetime resident of Goshen, Mrs. Cripe was owner of the Olympia Candy Kitchen for ten years.  She also owned the first Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Indiana; the Burger Dairy Store on US 33 West, and the Wawasee Café in Syracuse.   She was a member of the Jefferson Brethren Church, Goshen.   She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Lee Arnott, Stevensville, Montana, and Linda (Phillip) Stump of Syracuse, Indiana; two sons, Thomas F. Cripe of Goshen and Timothy D. Cripe of Syracuse; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary (Robert J.) Smith of Goshen.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick; two brothers, Lamar and Robert Bickel; and a sister, Carol Rink.   Friends will be received 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, at the funeral home.   A 12:00 noon funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home on Thursday, April 26, 2007.  Pastor Ron Spyker of Jefferson Brethren Church will officiate.   Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson Brethren Church Building Fund.
