Maxine M. Covert, 90, of Goshen, died Monday afternoon, April 22, 2013, at Courtyard Healthcare where she had been a resident since November. She was born August 26, 1922 in South Bend to Altis and Frances (Matesick) Stoner. She married Dora Covert October 12, 1940 in Middlebury. He died April 27, 2012. Survivors include a son, Gary Covert, Goshen; former daughter-in-law, Karen Covert; a granddaughter, Melanie Craigo, Goshen; a grandson, Timothy (Farrah) Covert, Elkhart; two great-grandchildren, Paige Craigo and Trevor Covert; and three sisters, Janet Culp and Lois (William) Scott, both of Goshen, and Laura Miller, New Carlisle. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two sisters, Phyllis Roose and June Gnivecki; and two brothers, Duane and DeVoe Stoner. A 1940 graduate of Middlebury High School and a member of the Little Pine Church of the Brethren, she was a member of the Jefferson Township Fire Department Auxiliary and an avid fan of Indiana University basketball and Chicago Cubs baseball. Mrs. Covert worked as an assembler at both Penn Electric and Johnson Control. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where an 11 a.m. funeral service will be conducted on Friday, April 26. Pastor Tom Clark will officiate. Burial will follow in West Goshen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson Township Fire Department or Little Pine Church of the Brethren.
