Max J. Voorhees, 86, of Goshen, died peacefully, joining his beloved wife, Monday evening at IU Health Goshen Hospital. He had been in failing health since March. He was born July 5, 1925 in Goshen to Clifford and Marie (Murphy) Voorhees. He married Marjorie L. Gardner Aug. 18, 1946 in Goshen. He is survived by three daughters, Debbie (Ron) Miller and Cindy (Don) Holdeman, both of Goshen and Susan (Steve) Eby of Elkhart; four grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and a godson, Matt Wiese of Frisco, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Daris Voorhees. A 1943 graduate of Goshen High School, Mr. Voorhees served with the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a Sea Bee. He retired from the purchasing department at Johnson Controls in 1982 after 35 years. A loving father and teacher, he was a jazz music enthusiast. He enjoyed woodworking in his basement shop and mowing the yard on his Cub Cadet. Private family services will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson Brethren Church, Goshen.
