Max Edward Malone, 82, of Goshen, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 12, 2012, at his home after struggling with congestive heart failure for five years. He was born February 20 1930 in Shipshewana to the late Marion and Marjorie (Coldren) Malone. He married Betty I. Koch January 26, 1950. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Steven C. (Gwyn) Malone of Syracuse, and Scott E. Malone of Elkhart; four grandchildren, Ben, Casey (Jessie), Lori and Bryan Malone; three step-grandchildren, Pete, Drew and Dustin Phares; and two great-grandchildren, Nichelle and Nevin Phares. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Peggy Schroeder and David Malone. A lifetime area resident, Mr. Malone worked as a used car salesman for many years at Eby Ford. He retired from Excel Rubber. A 1948 graduate of Topeka High School, he enjoyed going to Las Vegas and the Shipshewana Flea Market. He collected Coleman lanterns, especially red ones. He was a member of the West Goshen Church of the Brethren. Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, April 13, and 10 a.m. until the 12 noon funeral service on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Norm Replogle of West Goshen Church of the Brethren will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to West Goshen Church of the Brethren.
