Mavis M. Clason, 95, of Goshen passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at her home.
She was born November 6, 1920 in Chandler, Minnesota to Edward and Mary Dahl.
She is survived by three sons, Dr. Stephen E. Clason of Honolulu, Hawaii, Michael H. Clason of Northville, Michigan, Kevin J. Clason of Kokomo, Indiana, and three grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren, and Kristen Clason.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry E. Clason, and a daughter, Cheryl M. Clason.
A graduate of St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing, which is affiliated with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Mrs. Clason was a Registered Nurse. She also worked with and for Dr. Mayo.
Mrs. Clason was a Navy Nurse in WW II, serving in Corona, California and Seattle, Washington. It was in Corona where she met a wounded Marine, Henry Clason, and ultimately was married to him for 67 years.
In her career, she worked at Goshen Hospital for 15 years, was a Nurse Supervisor, and was involved in starting the first intensive care unit there.
Mrs. Clason also worked with Dr. Dana Troyer for 23 years.
Her interests included antiques, travel, reading, playing cards, and ceramics.
She enjoyed travel and went on trips to Niagara Falls, many locations in the western United States, Hawaii and Mexico. For their 40th wedding anniversary, Mavis and Henry went to Norway and Finland.
In their retirement, Mavis and Henry enjoyed 30 years split between Goshen and Mission, Texas.
She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church for 69 years. She also was a member of Sorority Beta Sigma Phi. She loved all animals, but was especially fond of dogs.
A 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2016 funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Dave VanderWiele of the Greene Road Church will officiate.
Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
