Maurine C. Sawatzky

Maurine C. Sawatzky, 93, of Goshen, died unexpectedly late Wednesday night, May 22, 2013, at Greencroft Goshen Health Care. She was born April 9, 1920 in Peoria, Illinois, to Ernest and Catherine (Stieglitz) Bauer. On August 4, 1953 at Pleasant Hill Mennonite Church she married Reynold Sawatzky. He survives along two daughters, Renee Sawatzky of Ithaca, New York and Nila R. Sawatzky of Goshen; and a brother, Royal Bauer of Goshen. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Ackermann and a brother, Walter Bauer. A 1949 graduate of Goshen College, Mrs. Sawatzky lived in Morton, Illinois, Hesston, Kansas, Dubuque, Iowa, Kennett, Missouri, and Baltimore, Maryland, before retiring to Goshen in 1982. She was a member of College Mennonite Church and an elementary school teacher. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Tuesday, May 28, 2013,at College Mennonite Church. Pastor Pamela Yoder will officiate. A family graveside service will be conducted at Violett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Mennonite Central Committee.
