Mattie Frey, 82, of Goshen, died Tuesday morning, January 2, 2007, at Greencroft Healthcare where she had been since October 2006. She was born August 12, 1924, in Topeka, Indiana, to Isaac and Lydia Ann (Miller) Helmuth. On August 18, 1940, she married Harvey S. Chupp in LaGrange. She then married Irvin Frey on December 31, 1954. He died in 1985. A resident of Goshen since 1950, Mrs. Frey, was a member of the Clinton Frame Mennonite Church. She had worked at Bower Manufacturing and Parker Hannifin Corporation as an inspector. She had also worked at Proof Company and Mogul Rubber. She was an avid bowler. Mrs. Frey is survived by three sons, Edwin H. (Roxanne) Chupp of New Paris, Richard Allen (Wanda) Chupp of Millersburg and Donald Ray (Rae Anne) Chupp of South Bend; four daughters, Dorothy Ellen (Quinter) Reed of New Paris, Ruby Darlene (Gene) Duvall of Fort Wayne, Caroline Elaine (Greg) Crowel of Edwardsburg, Michigan and Edna Marie (Rolland) Brenneman of Kalona, Iowa; 26 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. Also surviving are two brothers, Reuben (Edna) Helmuth of LaGrange, and Melvin (Elsie) Helmuth of Vista, California; and a sister-in-law, Sovilla Helmuth of LaGrange. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Erma Louise on March 4,1943; two brothers, Jacob and John Helmuth; and a sister, Bessie Miller. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2007, at the Clinton Frame Mennonite Church. A 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2007, funeral service will be conducted at the Clinton Frame Mennonite Church. Pastor Terry Diener will officiate. Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clinton Frame Mennonite Church.
