Mary Ellen Stump

Mary Ellen Stump, 86, of Goshen, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Greencroft Healthcare.

She was born July 31, 1936 in Goshen, to Virgil V. and Mary E. (Bloss) Dowty.

Mary Ellen married Ralph J. Clawson March 4, 1955, and they had six children.  On August 19, 1983, she married Alton Harley Stump.  He died November 11, 2001.

Mary Ellen is survived by three daughters, Cindy Meredith of Kalamazoo, Michigan,  Pamela (Rick) Hamsher of Goshen and Janet (Keith) Bontrager of Syracuse; two sons, Kirby (Christine) Clawson of Terra Haute and Mike (Lacey) Clawson of Tipp City, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter Teresa Heiman in 2003 and four siblings, Cherie Gall, Lois Hunsberger, and Dean and Vernon Dowty.

Mary Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards with friends, putting together puzzles, and reading.

She was an industrial seamstress, working for Turtle Top for more than 25 years.  At the same time, she was an independent industrial seamstress helping local RV factories.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 29, 2023, from 1 to 4 p.m. and again Monday, January 30,  from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Pastor Mike Overpeck will officiate.

Burial will follow in Whitehead Cemetery, New Paris.
