Mary Slabaugh

Mary Slabaugh, 85, of Goshen died early Saturday evening, December 16, 2006, at Greencroft Healthcare.   She was born in Mylo, North Dakota, on August 8, 1921, to Levi D. and Elizabeth (Graber) Bontrager.  She married Vernon E. Slabaugh on October 4, 1942, in Wolford, North Dakota.  He died on July 10, 2004.   A homemaker, she was a member of the Pleasant View Mennonite Church.  She had worked for Needlecraft in Elkhart.   She is survived by a daughter, Edith (Jack) Shanholt of Elkhart; two sons, Gary (Deb) Slabaugh of Tucson, Arizona, and Marlin (Betty) Slabaugh of Goshen; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sisters, Agnes (Laban) Hochstetler of Middlebury, Indiana, and Lucille (Paul) Shrock of Goshen; and a brother, Alvin (Mary) Bontrager of Topeka, Indiana.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; a daughter, Wilma Slabaugh; a son, Alvin Slabaugh; and two sisters, Viola Bontrager and Gladys Gingerich.   Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 20, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the Pleasant View Mennonite Church.   A 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 21, 2006, funeral service will be conducted at the Pleasant View Mennonite Church.  Rev. Ron Diener of the Pleasant View Mennonite Church will officiate.   Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.   Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant View Mennonite Church.
