Mary Elizabeth Shaver

Mary Elizabeth Shaver, 90, of Wakarusa and formerly of New Paris, died early Tuesday morning, October 2, 2007, at Miller’s Merry Manor.  She had been in failing health since 1999. She was born in Goshen on July 21, 1917, to Maurice and Edith Ethel (Cripe) Fryman.  She married Harry James Shaver on July 20, 1938 in Goshen.  He survives. A homemaker and lifelong resident of the area, Mrs. Shaver was a member of the First Brethren Church in New Paris.  She graduated from Goshen High School in 1936 and was an avid gardener and bird watcher.  She enjoyed traveling and had made 13 trips to Hawaii. She is survived by her husband, Harry of Wakarusa; two daughters, Virginia Lee (Terry A.) Miller of Goshen and Janie (Jeff) Coppes of Mishawaka; a son, James (Sharon) Shaver of Milford; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert (Waneta) Fryman of New Lebanon, Ohio. She was preceded in death by two brothers, LeRoy “Bud” and Harold Fryman. Friends will be received 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, October 7, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 8, 2007, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Rev. Ted Schowengerdt of First Brethren Church, New Paris will officiate. Burial will be in New Paris Cemetery, New Paris. Memorial contributions may be made to First Brethren Church, New Paris or Alzheimer’s Foundation.
