Mary A. Schwab

Mary A. Schwab, 85, of Elkhart died Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Greenleaf Living Center.

She was born October 3, 1932 in Elkhart to Monte and Virginia (Jones) Thorpe.

On Sept. 25, 1952 she married Philip Schwab in Goshen.  He died July 10, 2015.

She is survived by four daughters, Valle (Stan) Yoder of Kansas City, Missouri, Colleen (Mike) Schnell of Fishers, Lori (Dave Dickman) Snyder of Elkhart and Sharon (Gordy) Miller of Goshen; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Al Thorpe.

Mary graduated from Elkhart High School and was a “Rah Rah” girl in the 1940’s.  She loved to read and listen to Jazz.  She could hear a song and tell you the year it was written and the musician who played it.

She worked as a medical assistant for many years while raising her four girls.  She and her husband spent many years refurbishing homes as a hobby.  She also enjoyed traveling.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.

According to her wishes cremation will take place.

Memorial gifts may be directed to Second Chance Small Dog Rescue, Elkhart or the Humane Society of Elkhart, Bristol.
