Mary Katherine Nafziger

April 28, 1925 — December 8, 2011

Mary Katherine Nafziger, 86, of Juniper Place and Evergreen Place, Greencroft, Goshen, died Thursday evening, December 8, 2011, at IU Health Goshen Hospital after a gradual decline in health. She was born April 28, 1925 in Chenoa, Illinois to the late John M. and Anna (Litwiller) Nafziger. She is survived by a sister, Anna Ruth (Maynard) Good and a brother, Myrl A. (Twila) Nafziger, both of Goshen; 14 nieces and nephews; and 43 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, J. Marvin and Edith Nafziger; and a nephew, Jim Good. Ms. Nafziger taught grade school in Pekin, Illinois, from 1947-1949 and at Parkside Elementary from 1949-50. She then taught at Goshen College as a professor of elementary education for 37 years until her retirement in 1987. A member of College Mennonite Church, she volunteered at the Greencroft Library. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 11, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2011, funeral service in the Koinonia Room at College Mennonite Church. Pastor Phil Waite will officiate. Burial will follow on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, in Hopedale Mennonite Cemetery, Hopedale, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to College Mennonite Church, Goshen.
