Mary A. Mathews

Mary A. Mathews, 94, formerly of New Paris, died Monday, May 24, 2021 at Courtyard Healthcare, Goshen.

She was born December 4, 1926 at home in Nappanee to Bruce and Mary (Fox) Rogers.

On October 20, 1945 she married Howard M. Mathews in New Paris. He died April 20, 2011.

Survivors include four sons, Dana (Susan) Mathews and Steven (Marilyn) Mathews, both of New Paris, Bruce (Linda) Mathews of Indianapolis and Howard (Tracy) Mathews, Jr., also of New Paris; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Loyal Rogers of Goshen.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Watkins and Marjorie Kirkdoffer, and brothers, Bruce Rogers II and Charles Rogers.

Mary was a graduate of New Paris High School and member of New Paris Church of the Brethren. She was also a life member of VFW Post #985 Auxiliary, Goshen.

Mary had a witty and fun-loving personality that drew people to her. She enjoyed playing cards, collecting unique trinkets, and caring for her family and pets.

According to her wishes, cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.  The family will plan a memorial service at a later date.
