Mary Louise (Unzicker) Snyder, 88, of Goshen, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday night, January 23, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born to Paul and Ruby (Smoker) Unzicker at the family farm on C.R. 36 East in Goshen on July 28, 1925. She graduated from Goshen High School in 1944. On June 13, 1948 Mary married Wilden L. Snyder at Silver Street Mennonite Church. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1996. Mary is survived by her son, Roger (Debra Johnson) Snyder and a daughter, Laurie (Gordon) Lord, both of Goshen; and grandchildren Sarah Snyder (Ryan) Elliott, Goshen, Holly Snyder (Justin) Leatherman, Goshen, Mary Elizabeth Lord, Los Angeles, California and Geoffrey Lord, Cincinnati, Ohio. Mary is also survived by four great grandchildren Jake Elliott, Tori Elliott, Maddie Leatherman and Logan Leatherman and two sisters, Margaret Balyeat and Joanne Penland Sheline, all of Goshen. Mary was a familiar face at Kline's department store in downtown Goshen for over 25 years until her retirement in 1991. Mary loved her customers and never knew a stranger. Her favored term of endearment for everyone was "honey". After retirement Mary "enjoyed" going out in the fields to help her husband, Wilden, a registered land surveyor, with whom she made a famously interesting team. In 2006, Mary happily moved to Greencroft Manor IV, where she was always delighted to show her apartment to potential residents. Mary loved her life at Greencroft. She volunteered on the Greencroft Social Committee, helped organize her hall dinners, served on the movie committee (popcorn duty) and participated in We-fit bowling. She also volunteered at the Manor IV gift shop every Wednesday morning selling stamps and gift items. Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen for 65 years, and formerly served as treasurer of the Presbyterian Women's group. During the last nine months of Mary's life she was blessed with the loving care of her family, her Greencroft friends, her special friend and helper, Linda Lambright and the wonderful I.U. Goshen Health Hospice team. In keeping with Mary's wishes, cremation has taken place at Yoder-Culp Crematory, Goshen. Visitation for Mary will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Hardie Hall at the First Presbyterian Church, Goshen. A celebration of a life well lived will take place at the church at 1:30 p.m. I.U. Goshen Health Hospice Chaplain Jane Miller will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be direct to First Presbyterian Church, Goshen or Goshen Hospice and Home Care.
