Goshen,

Mary Etta (Stinebaugh) Holsopple, 97, of Goshen, passed away peacefully at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2020, in her room at Greencroft Retirement Community. Her heart, full of love for all, had finally given all there was to give.

She was born March 18, 1923, in Logansport, to Walter C. and Merle (Spitler) Stinebaugh.

She was married on June 24, 1945, at the Pittsburg, Ohio, Church of the Brethren to Donald Galen Holsopple, who preceded her in death on November 17, 1986.

Surviving are her brother Vernon Stinebaugh and his wife Angela (Sollenberger) Stinebaugh, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.; her son Curtis R. Holsopple and his wife Edith (Buckwalter) Holsopple of Hopewell, Virginia.; her grandchildren Jennifer (Myers) Bradfield of Toledo, Ohio; Stephanie (Myers) Connell and her husband Josh, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and two great-grandsons, Gavin and Hudson Connell of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; grandson James "Jay" Holsopple, his wife Michelle (McArthur) Holsopple and three great-grandchildren: Dillon Tillas, Rebecca Holsopple and Eli Holsopple of Hopewell, Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Mary Etta was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Galen Stinebaugh, her sister Martha (Stinebaugh) Yohe, and her daughter Donna (Holsopple) Myers.

Mary Etta and her three siblings performed in musical quartets beginning when they were children, with piano, organ, violins and cello as part of the ensemble. She earned a music degree from Manchester College, N. Manchester, in 1944, and she immediately began her career teaching music. She served as pianist and organist at her various churches in Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, California, Washington State, and Michigan before returning to Indiana. She accompanied soloists and led many choirs during her career. Besides being an accomplished accompanist, she studied pipe organ performance in Portland, Oregon, becoming very accomplished on that instrument. Most recently, she was the organist at The Church of Christ, Scientist, in Goshen, and served as piano accompanist for the Evergreen Singers in Goshen. Even as age and disabilities mounted in her later years, she was able to perform piano music at many Greencroft events, including Christmas music programs through December 2018 with her daughter Donna and son Curtis.

Mary Etta was cremated. There is no viewing or memorial service at this time because of the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions on travel and large gatherings.
