Mary H. Etsinger, 95, of Goshen, died Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Greencroft Healthcare.
Mary was born July 7, 1923 in Goshen to Lloyd and Alice (Hindes) Lung.
On May 29, 1942, one day after graduating from Goshen High School, she married John S. Etsinger in New Paris. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage before his death in 2005.
She is survived by a daughter, Sue (William) Gangwer of Goshen; six grandchildren, Laurie Chupp, Murle Anne Erschen, Robert Gangwer, Wendy Sapp, Tammy Erickson and Tom Eldridge; seven great grandchildren; four great-great granddaughters; and a step great-great granddaughter.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Eldridge, and half siblings, Nedra McCloughan and Clair Smith.
Mary was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, holding many chairmanships at the state, district and local level. The year she was state president, 1975-76, she set a record for membership growth of over 100%. Some of the other positions held were; State President of the Military Order of “Lady Bugs”; State President of Ladies Auxiliary of the Military Order of “Cooties”; and 3rd district president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
She also volunteered for nine years at the Veteran’s Hospital, Indianapolis and was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m. funeral service will be conducted Thursday, August 23. Rev. Timothy T. Yoder will officiate.
Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen.
