Mary G. Bustos

Mary G. Bustos, 82, of Goshen, died Monday afternoon, January 22, 2007, at Elkhart General Hospital.   She was born on March 24, 1924, in Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico to Teofilio and Carmen (Sanchez) Gaxiola.  She married Margarito G. Bustos, Jr. on June 1, 1956, in San Antonio Texas.  He preceded her in death on December 17, 1988.   A resident of Goshen since July 1999, coming from Davenport, Iowa, where she lived for 26 years, Mrs. Bustos worked with her husband as a ministry team starting the first Hispanic Mennonite church in Davenport, Iowa.  They ministered to the Hispanic community there for 24 years.   Mrs. Bustos received a Christian Education degree from Seattle Pacific College and attended a Bible school in Nogales, Arizona.  She served as the first president of Hispanic WMSC (Women’s Missionary Service Committee) of the Mennonite Church.  She attended the College Mennonite Church in Goshen.   She is survived by a son, Steve (Lori) Bustos of Goshen and five grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Belinda G. Bustos in July 2006 and a brother, Eliseo Gaxiola.   Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 25, and from 9 to 10 a.m., Friday in the Koinania Room at College Mennonite Church.   A 10:00 a.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the College Mennonite Church. Pastors Firman Gingerich and Klaudia Smucker of the College Mennonite Church will officiate.   Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Plains Mennonite Conference.
