Mary Zook Brown

Mary Zook Brown, 86, of Walkerton, died Saturday morning, November 13, 2010, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton, where she had been for ten days. She was born in North Liberty on July 14, 1924 to Harold Lewis and Martha Ellen (Wharton) Whitaker.  She married Russell R. Zook on June 23, 1946.  He died December 16, 1972.  She then married Halbert L. Brown on May 11, 1974.  He died July 15, 1996.  Mrs. Brown is survived by five nieces, Marie (Tom) Kryder of North Liberty, Kathy (Roger) Kiefer and LuAnn (Darwin) Beron, both of Bremen, Julie (Bart) Clark of Walkerton, and Brenda (Doug) Laymon of Goshen; and nephews, Brian and Brett Craft. She was preceded in death by her husbands; brothers, Gene and Lewis Whitaker; and sister, Donna Craft. A homemaker, she was a member of the VFW Post 1954 Auxiliary, North Liberty.  She enjoyed sewing and shopping.  Family and friends knew her for her spunk and patriotism. Friends may call 11 to 1 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2010,at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 1:30 p.m., funeral service will be conducted by Chaplain John Piecuch. Burial will be in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery. Memorials may be given to VFW Post 1954 Ladies Auxiliary.
