Mary K. Bechtel

Mary K. Bechtel, 87, died Thursday morning, November 12, 2009 at the Goshen General Hospital Emergency Room. She was a resident of Goshen since 1952.  She was born to the late William R. Mitchell, Sr. and Helen (Bye) Mitchell Verbarg, on December 11, 1921, in Indianapolis. She was marred to Dr. David D. Bechtel, on May 18, 1952, in Goshen. He preceded her in death.  Mrs. Bechtel was a member of the First Brethren Church, Goshen, the William Tuffs Chapter of the National Society of the Daughter of the American Revolution, a Charter member of the LaSalle-Rosseau Chapter of Questers, Michiana Doll Club, and the Elkhart Dental Auxiliary. She was a homemaker and she helped her husband with her dental practice.    She is survived by one son, David R. Bechtel, Goshen; one step-sister, Jane Verbarg Maley, Vista, California; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Verbarg, and Karla Mitchell. She was preceded in death by three brothers, William R. Mitchell Jr., Earnest T. Verbarg, Jr., Fred G. Verbarg; two brothers-in-law Harold Bechtel, Dr. Kermit Bechtel; and two sisters-in-law, Boneita Swihart and Norma Verbarg; and one step-sister, Rosmary Verbarg Guthrie  Friends may call from 2-6 p.m., Sunday, November 15, 2009, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  A 10:00 a. m., Monday, November 16, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home; the Revered John Drexler will officiate. Burial will be in Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be made out to the American Cancer Society.
