Mary Elizabeth Alspaugh Bontrager, 99, of Goshen, died Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Courtyard Healthcare.
She was born December 2, 1920 in Van Wert, Ohio to Chester and Eva Mae (Wright) Alspaugh. She was the foster daughter of Paul and Esther Amstutz.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce (Maynard) Slaubaugh of Cassopolis, Michigan, Evelyn Howard of Mitchell and Esther (Gerald) Stutzman of Shipshewana; four sons, C. Paul (Janet) Byler of Goshen, Clair (Judy) Byler of Mitchell, John Byler of Three Rivers, Michigan and James (Kathy) Byler of Goshen; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn (Eugene) Shaw of Hillsdale, Michigan and a foster brother and sister.
She was preceded in death by three husbands, Carl Byler, Leonard Wollard and Tobias Bontrager; seven siblings and a great-granddaughter, Karlee Byler.
A member of the New Paris Church of the Nazarene and the Goshen Eastern Star. She worked in housekeeping at Goshen Hospital from 1964-71.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Bryon Smith will officiate.
A private burial will take place at a later date in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to New Paris Church of the Nazarene or the Indiana Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
