Martin “Marty” M. McCrindle, 66, of Goshen passed away Monday, Aug. 8, 2016 at his home after battling cancer for six and a half years.
He was born December 4, 1949 in LaSalle, Illinois to Ronald and Arlene (Levan) McCrindle.
On February 21, 1969 he married Patsy Miller in Constantine, Michigan.
She survives along with two sons, Scott (Teri) McCrindle and Sean (Shelly) McCrindle, both of Goshen; two grandchildren, Liam and Kara McCrindle; and a sister, Patricia McCrindle of Goshen.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A longtime Goshen resident, Marty was a fireman and one of the first paramedics with the Goshen Fire Department, retiring in 1998 after 27 years. The last three years with the fire department he served as chief fire inspector. He started and taught firefighting at Elkhart County Career Center for 15 years. He served as a deputy coroner for the Elkhart County Coroner’s Office for 13 years.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Marty was a hero to his family. He cherished fishing trips with his boys, enjoyed camping with his family, loved attending the bagpipe events and parades that his grandchildren participated in and loved listening to granddaughter, Kara, sing.
Friends may call Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., all at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be conducted Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Rev. Father Tony Steinacker will officiate.
Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorial contributions may be given to Center for Hospice Care or National Fallen Firefighters’ Foundation.
