Martha Troyer

January 15, 1916 — January 8, 2009

Martha Troyer, 92, of Goshen, died Thursday morning, January 8, 2009, at her home. She was born in Shipshewana, Indiana, on January 15, 1916, to Levi C. and Fannie (Beachy) Yoder.  She married Jerome Troyer on December 12, 1935 in Shipshewana.  He died in 1981. A homemaker, Mrs. Troyer was a member of East Goshen Mennonite Church.  She volunteered with Goshen Hospital Hospice and Mennonite Board of Missions.  She provided a community home for Oaklawn residents, graded Bible Studies for Gospel Echoes and provided a home to Gospel Echoes employees. She is survived by five daughters, Joyce (Fred) Landis of Motley, Minnesota, Julia (Lee) Bauman of Nappanee, Donna (Dana) Sommers of Sturgis, Michigan, Janice (Amos) Hostetler and June (Stan) Yoder, both of Goshen; a son, Jerome (Sally) Troyer, Jr. of Goshen; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Irma (Howard) Troyer and Barbara (Alvin) Mullet, both of Shipshewana, Edna Miller of Sturgis, Michigan, and Mary Gingerich of Goshen; and a brother, Levi Yoder of Shipshewana. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Floyd Troyer; a grandson, four brothers, Alvin, Perry, Aaron, and William Yoder; and a sister, Barbara Mullet. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, January 12, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 13, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at East Goshen Mennonite Church.  Pastor Steve Slagel of East Goshen Mennonite Church and nephew, Pastor Ken Miller of Moorepark Church, Three Rivers, Michigan, will officiate. Burial will be in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Care at Home Hospice or Gideons International.
