Martha Schmucker, 65, of Millersburg, died early Monday morning, May 27, 2013 at the home of her daughter. She had been ill since January 2012. She was born May 11, 1948 in Hicksville, Ohio, to Monroe and Lena (Wagler) Barkman. On October 16, 1966 she married David J. Schmucker in Indianapolis. He survives. Also surviving is her father, Monroe of Topeka; three daughters, Sheila Schmucker, of Goshen, Sheri Schmucker, and Tamara ( Matt) Ellenberger, both of Nashville, Tennessee; two sons, David Eugene and Dale Schmucker, both of Millersburg; a grandson, Noah; five sisters, Mary Jane (Wilbur) Miller, of Middlebury, Ann (Toby) Troyer, Waneta (John) Miller, Carolyn (Dave) Nissley, and Norma (Fritz) Bontrager, all of Topeka; and three brothers, Sam (Rose) Barkman, of Wolcottville, Monroe Jr. (Rachel) Barkman, of Ligonier, and William Barkman, of Topeka. She was preceded in death by her mother; two brothers, John Allen and Ray Ellis Barkman; and a sister, Alma Mae Barkman. Mrs. Schmucker was a nurse at IU Health Goshen Hospital, and member of the American Nursing Association, and the Topeka Historical Society. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday May 29, 2013, and one hour prior to a 10 a.m. Thursday May 30, 2013 funeral all at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Rev. Harold Gingerich of Eden Community Worship Center will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Center Cemetery, Nappanee. Memorial contributions may be directed to the education fund for Martha's grandchild.
