Martha Irene Fehring

Martha Irene Fehring, 82, of Goshen, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 7 p.m. with her family at her side at Auburn Village Health Care. She was a resident of Greencroft’s Sycamore Court since 2011.

She was born July 12, 1934 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to Samuel and Ruth (Butterman) Musselman.

Martha attended Goshen College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Music Education in May 1958. Martha married John R. Fehring on August 8, 1959 in Gettysburg Pennsylvania. They were married for 54 years prior to his death in 2013.

While her two sons where in grade school she studied at the Indiana University and received a Master’s Degree in Education.

Martha taught music in elementary school for twenty five years in the Goshen school system. In 1955 she became the director of the children’s Choir at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Goshen, later becoming the director of the adult choir until 1989.  She also gave private piano lessons in the Goshen area up until her health began to fail her this past year.

Martha attended West Goshen Church of the Brethren from 1989 until present and sang in the choir. Martha enjoyed attending Goshen College gospel concerts, visiting with friends and family, helping others, the occasional fish fry and making her famous (and edible) fruit cake at Christmas time.

Surviving are two sons, John (Rhonda) Fehring of Churubusco and Paul (Diane) Fehring of Jupiter, Florida; five grandchildren, James of Columbus, Joel of Churubusco, Rachel (Jon) Huhta of Pecatonica, Illinois, Andre and Sara Mia of Jupiter, Florida; a niece Micki (Bob) Olson of Elkhart; and a sister, Ruthanna Brooks of Pennsylvania.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband John R. Fehring; her parents and siblings Lloyd, Esther, Rhoda, Richard, Arthur, Miriam Esh, Glenn and Melvin Musselman.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 12, noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Norm Replogle will officiate.

According to Martha’s wishes, cremation will take place following the service.
