Martha A. Detwiler

August 7, 1925 — October 11, 2018

Martha A. Detwiler, 93, of Goshen, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018, at her home.

She was born August 7, 1925 in Bronson, Michigan to Earl and Bertha (Moore) Bell.

On January 1, 1948 she married Frank H. Detwiler in Bronson.  He died December 11, 2016.

Survivors include five children, Sharon (Donald Gingerich of Goshen, Connie (David) Blough of Bristol, Lois (Ron) Lanzon of Fremont, Peggy Detwiler of Goshen and Steve (Debbie) Detwiler of Bristol; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Goshen and a former member of Grace Baptist Church, Bristol, where she served as organist and taught Sunday school.  Martha played in her high school band and was a violinist.

A musician, Martha understood “the anticipation before the music begins; it is death before new life, and it is where we all will sit one day.  I believe Martha’s fingers are not trembling with fear or even her 93 years…but they wait to play a new song, one she’s been practicing her entire full, hard, beautiful long life.  Soon, soon, grandma…your song is up next…and we will all be listening.”

A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Neff Cemetery, corner of CR 18 and 31, Goshen.  A fellowship will follow at Pine Ridge Bible Church.

Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
