Marta C. Bender

Marta C. Bender, 88, passed away at Greencroft Village in Goshen, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. C. K. Bender and Alice (Boren) Bender; her brother Dr. Robert A. (Judith) Bender and most recently by her sister Rebecca “Becka” Snider and partner Judi Moor.  Marta was survived by her brother, Dr. Bruce H. (Sherry) Bender and several nieces and nephews she loved dearly.

Marta earned her B.A. degree in English from Miami University (Ohio) and went on to receive a master’s degree in journalism from Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

She enjoyed a successful career as a reporter and later editor for the Milwaukee Sentinel. Her passion for newsprint began as early as first grade and continued throughout her career. A gifted journalist, Marta interviewed numerous presidential candidates and brought important stories to readers with insight and clarity. Even after retirement, she remained engaged by keeping in contact with former colleagues, high school classmates, and friends through letters and social media. Marta was a voracious reader and loved sharing her knowledge with others.

Marta was also an avid, lifelong traveler. Her journeys took her across Great Britain, Scotland, the Caribbean, and beyond.
