Marjorie Freed, 93, formerly of Goshen, slipped away peacefully Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Hoosier Village, Indianapolis.
She was born November 11, 1930 in Elkhart to Huber and L. Edith (Thompson) Yoder.
On October 9, 1949 she married Francis Freed in Elkhart, Indiana. Francis passed away September 2, 2018.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl (Randall) Seaman, Brownsburg, Indiana; sons Timothy (Elma) Freed, London, Ontario, and Ronald (Pamela) Freed, Winder, Georgia; six grandchildren, Kirsten Freed, Kristina (George) Barcus, Casey Freed, Sarah (Kyle) McLain, Rebekah (Joshua) Blackwell, Michelle (Trent) Gray; a sister, Lorene McDaniel, Leo, Indiana, and a sister-in-law, Adeline Yoder, Indianapolis. Also, 10 great grandchildren, Adalyn, Sophia, Tristan, Sadie, Kayla, Sydney, Susan, Hensley, Evelyn, Warren. Nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews also were an important part of her family.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Wayne Yoder.
Marjorie worked as a medical assistant for River Oaks OB/GYN for 32 years. She was pleased to have remained in the work force until age 78! She was a member of Belmont Mennonite Church, Elkhart. Sewing was her life-long passion. Over the years she continually supported MCC (Mennonite Central Committee), piecing comforters and sewing countless hygiene and school kit bags. She sewed a thousand masks during the Covid pandemic when requested by healthcare providers and friends. She had a special love for children, teaching Sunday School, volunteering as a tutor for school children to assist with reading, and was always prepared with crafts and fun activities for her grandchildren and then great grands. Music brought much joy to Marjorie. As a young woman she sang in a women’s quartet and continued singing in choirs over the years, including the Evergreen Singers at Greencroft in Goshen.
According to her wishes, cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory. A memorial service for family and friends will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen on Saturday, July 6, 2024 beginning at 2 p.m.
Private family burial will take place at Yellow Creek Cemetery, prior to the memorial service.
