Marion K. Yoder, 83, died Monday, September 27, 2021, at his home in Goshen. He was born January 4, 1938, in Goshen, Indiana to Ora M. and Grace (Smeltzer) Yoder. He grew up in Shipshewana. He received a medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1964 after completing his bachelor's degree at Goshen College.
On June 20, 1964 he married Meredith Lambright in Goshen.
Meredith survives, along with three sons, Andre' (Lori) Yoder, Middlebury, Indiana, Marcel (Debora) Yoder, Springfield, Illinois, Cordell (Jackie) Yoder, Clarkston, Michigan; six grandchildren, Emma Yoder, Benjamin and Samuel Yoder, Alexander, Jack, and Nicholas Yoder; four step grandchildren Nathan (Melanie) Corbin, Benjamin (Kayla) Kort, Ashley and Jessica Petker; and three step great grandchildren, Milo Corbin, Ronan and Jaxon Kort.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings; Janet, Leon, and Elaine Yoder
After completing internship at Akron City Hospital, Akron, Ohio, Meredith and he served three years 1965-1968 in Algeria, North Africa with Mennonite Central Committee. When returning to Goshen he joined High Park Physicians for two years then went on to Akron Children's Hospital, Akron, Ohio, to complete a Residency in Pediatrics. In 1972 he began a solo practice in Pediatrics until 2003, serving the Goshen community. After retirement from full time practice, he did locums for five years around the country, also short terms in Ecuador and China.
Marion had a kind and compassionate soul, which gained him respect and admiration of colleagues, patients, friends, and family. He had a deep faith and was active in helping start two churches in which he was a charter member.
Marion's interests were: history, especially World War II, travel (over 60 countries) and woodturning with his friends. Saving a piece of history, he made banks from post office doors. He and Meredith wintered in Arizona for 15 years, where many hours were spent hiking and woodturning.
Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
An 11 a.m. memorial service will be conducted, Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 at Berkey Ave. Mennonite Fellowship, 2509 Berkey Ave., Goshen. Please plan on wearing a mask if attending the memorial service.
A private burial will take place at Miller 8 Square Cemetery, Goshen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to M.C.C. or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
