Marilyn Emily Culver, 70 of Cassopolis, Michigan, died Wednesday afternoon, November 26, 2008, at Goshen General Hospital where she had been a patient since Monday. She had been ill since May 24, 2006. She was born on July 25, 1929 in Freeport, New York, to Burton and Ruth (Quick) Cassin. She married Herbert R. Culver on September 12, 1948 in Westhampton, Long Island, New York. He survives. A Middlebury resident since 1969, Mrs. Culver was co-owner, along with her husband, and vice president of sales of marketing for Culver Duck Farm in Middlebury. Mrs. Culver was very active in Girl Scouts at both the local and district levels in the 1960’s. She enjoyed her family, family vacations and travels; gardening and flower growing; historic literature; sailing and lighthouses. She is survived by her husband, Herbert; four sons, Russell (Kay) Culver of Middlebury, Burton (Alene) Culver of Elkhart, Herbert (Karyn) Culver, III of Deer, Arkansas, and Wes (Val) Culver of Goshen; two daughters, Julie (Tim) Rouch of Three Rivers, Michigan, and Nancy Nylund of San Jose, California; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Janice Cassin of Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Culver in October 2002; and a sister, Lois Fierro in 1988. A celebration in memory of Marilyn’s life will take place at the lake house in Cassopolis, Michigan on Saturday, November 29, 2008, from 2 to 5 p.m. No other services are being planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cancer Center of Goshen General Hospital for patient financial care.
