Marilyn J. Berkey

Marilyn J. Berkey, 91, of LaGrange, formerly of Goshen, died Friday, July 12, 2024 at The Waters of LaGrange.

She was born September 11, 1932 in Elkhart to Wilford D. and Ada Marie (Bonewitz) Lightfoot.

On November 16, 1952 she married William A. Berkey. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1989.

Survivors include four children, William “Bill” (Michele) Berkey, Jr. of Wolcottville, Charlotte (Terry) Miller of Columbus, Debra (Steve) Mills of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Richard (Teresa) Berkey of Cornelius, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Orbie, Jack, and Jim Lightfoot.

Marilyn was a 1950 graduate of Elkhart High School and member of First Brethren Church of Elkhart. She was a former board member of the Brethren Retreat Center in Shipshewana, and member of International Church Women United.

While raising her family she also worked at The Elkhart Truth in the sales and layout departments. She enjoyed sewing, making clothing, embroidery, reading, and camping with the Elkhart County Campers.

Visitation will be Friday, July 26 from 10 a.m. until the 12 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Pastor Dan Herendeen will officiate

Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
