With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, the family of Marie T. Slaga, age 92, of Goshen, Indiana, announces her peaceful passing on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Greencroft Healthcare.
Born on May 5, 1934, in Utica, New York, Marie was the beloved daughter of George and Martha (Scheiderich) Snyder. She carried with her throughout life the values of kindness, faith, compassion, and dedication to family that shaped the woman so many came to love.
Marie devoted much of her life to education, serving as a cherished elementary school teacher who lovingly taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students. She had a gift for nurturing young hearts and minds, and generations of children were blessed by her patience, warmth, and encouragement. Teaching was not simply a profession to Marie; it was a calling rooted in love and care for others.
On August 26, 1954, in Utica, New York, Marie married the love of her life, Edward J. Slaga,
Marie will be lovingly remembered by her children: Joanne Hartman of Goshen, Diane Cupp of Edmonds, Oklahoma, James (Sue) Slaga, Joseph (Jackie) Slaga, and Stephen (Lei) Slaga all of Gladwin, Michigan. She was also a proud and deeply loving grandmother to 20 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 28 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought tremendous joy to her life.
She is also survived by her brother, George (Ann) Snyder of New Hartford, New York.
In addition to her husband, Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her dear sister Nancy Leporte, son-in-law Bradley Cupp and her great granddaughter Molly Hines.
A woman of strong and steadfast Catholic faith, Marie was an inspiration and example to her family in the importance of the Catholic faith in their lives. She was a devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Goshen, where she faithfully sang in the church choir. She also enjoyed meaningful friendships and community through organizations including Clinton Cliques, Purdue Extension, and Mary Kay, and treasured the many connections she made throughout the years.
Marie found joy in life’s simple blessings, faith, family gatherings, reading, traveling, laughter, music, and caring for those around her. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and loving presence touched countless lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Marie’s life and legacy at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Goshen. Visitation will be Thursday June 4, 2026, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest at Violett Cemetery immediately following Mass.
Though our hearts are saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing that Marie’s legacy of kindness, faith, and unconditional love will live on in the lives she touched
