Marie C. Shidler

March 31, 1918 — June 22, 2008

Marie C. Shidler, 90, of Kalamazoo, formerly of Goshen, died late Sunday morning, June 22, 2008, at Gloria’s Place. She was born in Wyatt, Indiana, on March 31, 1918, to Emil and Edith (Bendit) Berger.  She married Dayton Shidler in Goshen on August 13, 1938.  He died July 14, 1946. Mrs. Shidler worked as a receptionist for Dr. J.P. Turner.  She was a member for many years of the Women of the Moose and the Elkhart County Medical Assistants. She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Robert) Kaarlie of Allegan, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Bernice Berger of Goshen; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dayton; long time companion and friend, Stanley Piasecki; three sisters, Minnie Hardy, Edna Hershberger and Aline Haab; and four brothers, Albert, Paul, Harry and George Berger. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 25 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. An 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 26, 2008, funeral service will be conducted at Grace United Methodist Church in New Paris.  Pastor Rob Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in West Goshen Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Veterans Administration or to the American Heart Association.
