Marian H. Werner, 93, of Goshen, died Monday morning, June 20, 2011, at her home. A Goshen resident for many years, Mrs. Werner was born on July 11, 1917, in Goshen, to the late Harlan and Edith (Burris) Sharp. She married Howard M. Werner on October 20, 1939 in Milford. He died November 3, 2003. Mrs. Werner was a graduate of Indiana University where she was a member of the Chi Omega and Pleides sororities. She was a substitute teacher, teaching English and history in both Goshen and Concord High Schools for many years. Mrs. Werner was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon. She was co-founder of the Goshen Hospital Auxiliary and served on its board. She was a member and past president of both the active and associate chapters of Tri Kappa Sorority and the Goshen Library Club. She was a board member of Goshen Campfire Girls and a member of the Goshen College Community Relationship Committee and worked as a scheduler for the Red Cross Blood Bank. She was also a member of Maplecrest Country Club. She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia (Richard J.) Noel of Indianapolis; two granddaughters, Dr. Anne Noel of Providence, Rhode Island and Dr. Nancy Noel of Indianapolis; and six great-grandchildren, Anna, William and John Schlagenhauf and Ethan, Andrew and Julia Binder. She was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Metzger and a brother, Burris "Jack" Sharp. Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church, Goshen, where an11:00 a.m., funeral service will be conducted. Pastor Alan Griffin will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Goshen.
