Maria Makximenko, 94, of Goshen, died Monday, October 30, 2023 at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born November 1, 1928 in Starosillya, Ukraine to Arceny and Fedora (Honcharenko) Honcharenko.
On May 5, 1945 she married Nickolai Makximenko in Austria. He died in 1995.
She is survived by a daughter, Valia (Doug) West, Garrett; a son, Victor N. (Betsey) Makximenko, Bedford; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two brothers, Michael (Carol) Honcharenko, St. Joseph, Michigan and Boris (Jackie) Honcharenko, Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ivan Makximenko.
Maria immigrated to the United States in 1949, where she entered through New Orleans, shortly after she moved to Chicago. In 1954 she moved to Goshen where she settled with her family. Maria became a US citizen in 1956. Her working career included working at T & M Rubber Inc. and Barler Corporation. She was a founding member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Goshen.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 31, with a Panachyda service at 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 1 at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Goshen. Rev. Fr. Silouan Rolando will officiate.
Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery in Goshen.
