Maria Herus

April 7, 1918 — March 25, 2012

Maria Herus, 93 of Goshen, died at 2:06 a.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012 at IU Health Goshen Hospital. She was born April 7, 1918 in Maschanka, Trusttyanetz, Ukraine to the late Fedor and Wekla (Didek) Taranenko. She married Alexander Herus in Nordhorn, Germany on May 14, 1945. He died March 14, 2010. They moved to the United States soon after and established residence in Chicago where she worked for Motorola. In 1961 they moved to Goshen and she worked for Philips Industry in Elkhart. Maria was a homemaker and never had children of her own. Steve Momotiuk was her godchild and they have remained close for his entire life. She is survived by her godchild, the Steve and Janina Momotiuk family, and Maria's family in the Ukraine. She was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters and her husband of 65 years. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Tuesday, March 27, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A Panachyda service will begin at 7:00 pm. A 10:00 funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Goshen. The Rev. Father Silouan Rolando will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
