Margaret A. Larimer, age 91, of West Lafayette, formerly of LaGrange, passed away at Heritage Healthcare on December 28, 2015.
She was born to Frank and Alice (Coney) Francis on September 26, 1924 in LaPorte.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul Larimer, and two brothers, Air Force Major Philip Francis and Paul “Skip” Francis.
She is survived by two brothers, James (Norma) Francis of Ft. Wayne and Gaylord “Bud” (Sandy) Francis of Bradenton, Florida, a sister-in-law, Norine Francis of Sebring, Florida, and a sister-in law, Marilyn Gray of Satsuma, Florida. Also surviving are her two children, Stanley (Diane) Larimer of Goshen and Ruth (Larry) Simpson of Lafayette; grandchildren Amy (Jason) Younie of Avon, Katie Simpson of Linden, Jennifer (Dr. Neil) Martin of Newton, Massachusetts, Dr. Samantha (Dr. Ben) Larimer-Bousquet of Waverly, Iowa, Dr. Phillip (Corena) Larimer of San Francisco, California, and Monica (Troy) Sullivan of Chelmsford, Massachusetts; as well as nine great-grandchildren.
Margaret attended Salem Center School and graduated from LaGrange High School. She then attended Elkhart Business College. After graduating, she joined the war effort as a clerical worker at Wright-Patterson Air Base in Dayton, Ohio. After the war she returned to LaGrange, where she met her husband Paul. They were married from 1950 until his death in 2007. She was one of the original employees of Sealed Power Corporation (now SPX) after they built a facility in LaGrange. She worked in the office at Sealed Power Corporation until her retirement in the late 1980’s. Always believing that all people should be treated equally, she was instrumental in convincing the local management that office women should be allowed to dress comfortably instead of following the corporate dress code of dresses and high heels. She enjoyed her retirement years at Oliver Lake, later in Florida, and eventually in Goshen. Margaret was a life member of the Eastern Star, Sylvan Chapter, in LaGrange. Her family was always very important to her and she tried to pass on her ideals of honesty, hard work, and equality.
Visitation will be on January 16th from 12:00-2:00 p.m., with a service to follow immediately at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home in Goshen.
Her family wishes to thank the kind staff at Heritage Healthcare in West Lafayette.
