Margaret "Peggy" Herring

Margaret “Peggy” H. Herring, 97, died from congestive heart failure August 10, 2018, at Braddock Glen Assisted Living, Fairfax, Virginia.

She was born February 23, 1921 in Muncie, Indiana to William and Hazel (Silvers) Scherbaum.

Peggy graduated from Muncie Central High School and attended two years at Ball State. She married Morris Herring, Jr. May 25, 1941 in Goshen, Indiana. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2011.

Peggy was a secretary for many local companies while actively involved in her children’s activities including PTA President, Campfire Leader, Athletic Booster and supporter of the music programs at Goshen High School. Both Peggy and Morrie were Senior High Youth Leaders and longtime members of The First Presbyterian Church of Goshen.

Surviving family include her son, C. David (DeLayne) Herring, Chula Vista, California; daughters, Barbara Grostick, Henderson, Nevada, Becky (David) Witherspoon, Dallas, Texas and Beth (Mike) Kimlick, Burke, Virginia. Peggy has 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was predeceased by her husband, two sisters, a brother, and a grandson.

Peggy will be buried alongside her husband at Violett Cemetery following a private family service.
